I have overall responsibility for managing the vineyard, drawing on over 25 years of experience as a researcher in the agricultural sector. My work has focused on promoting sustainable farming practices and shaping policies that create the right incentives for farmers to protect and enhance the environment. Much of my research, both in the UK and across Europe, has centred on improving soil health through practices such as cover cropping, mulching, and increasing farmland biodiversity.
Now, I’m excited to put this knowledge into practice here at Ditchling Vineyard. It’s a new chapter and, admittedly, a steep learning curve as I get to grips with the rhythm of vineyard life, from pruning and canopy management to understanding the unique character of our site. I’m fortunate to have the support of my husband, Tom, and our two daughters, who all help in the running of the vineyard. Together, we’re committed to continuing our family’s legacy while nurturing the vines and the soil for generations to come.
